PENTHOUSE MOUSE Open Photo Shoot
The heavy beat vibrates through the vast air and endless concrete floors. The vast spaces hustle with excitement and anticipation.
Watchers flutter about with a faux air of importance and self worth attempting to find the middle ground between paying attention to themselves and whats to come.
The stylist also flutters back and forth but with a sense of direction and dedication. She does the salsa dance of making sure everything fits the definition of perfect, a socialite, a perfectionist, a professional.
The models, males waif and alternative looking, the females blonde and perfect smiles, sit silently in front of the hair and make-up team, preparing to be transported from their daily life to a world of new beginnings. The team get to work, glazed eyes transfixed on each model, play Barbie and Ken.
The air through out the abandoned warehouse is chilled yet retains a warmth of creativity, the large space is desolate and barren, like an underground parking lot. The lights are dim but the expressions and smiles of people act like a pounding heart in a dead body with white washed walls. The air kisses and laughter between people, whether real or not, act as a barrier to the solid and harsh background.
Each camera flash captures a moment of perfection, a moment of life where nothing matters but the clothes. The photographers works the magic of the moment, giving regular instructional hand gestures and creating a mirror of poses for the actors to portray as they stand against a wall of white.
The models work on pairs, one guy with one girl. The variety of looks portrays shows the versatility of the brand. The shoot starts with two girls, on in white and on in black, on good and one evil. Mesh tops baring all with little on the bottom. One guy comes out on a jacket that looks like a laser light has pierced the soul of the fabric.
Next is a metronized country look, like the offspring of Country Road and Dangerfeild. The guy wearing a flannelet shirt that reached his knees making pants irrelevant, big boots to stick with the scene. His counterpart showing short shorts from, to somewhat extent, a great grandchild of the horse riding Jodhpur. Then as a complete contrast a girl appears in a pair of extremely tight short shorts that are completely covered in glitzy sequins. They are yellow then printed right in the centre of both front and back is a giant smiley face out of black sequins, a sight to behold.
Trance music breaks any awkward silence, generating a contentment amidst a world of fashion which is not at the slightest a grounded environment.
But maybe its a good thing; if we were to always remain in a world on the ground how could we touch the sky?
